The MacTech audience is largely made up of Macintosh developers, many

An important part of modern Unix philosophy is the culture of compiling
programs from open source. You don't need to be a developer for this.
1- Recommend the installation of 'X11 for Mac OS X Public Beta SDK'.

Don't underestimate Macintosh users, they might be beginners with
Apple's X11, but they learn very quickly and that's about the third
question you're going to get.
Exactly. This is a point that Apple doesn't seem to understand either.
They have this unfortunate habit of including castrated versions of open
source packages so that you can't use them for compiling other packages.
Examples are cups, python and many others. And X11, of course. If you
aren't careful, even the developer tools installation will be incomplete
(missing SDK package), and many people have problems because they didn't
install the BSD.pkg that comes with the OSX system.
I've been pushing friends and family members towards Macs for years,
with a fair amount of success. I don't see any of them doing X11
development. SOME Mac users want to program, but (IMHO) most do not.
You don't have to program yourself in order to need the SDK pkg.
