I think some of you are confused between the TERM environment variable and
the term setting within gnuplot. After starting gnuplot, either within Terminal
or an xterm (it doesn't matter), you can say "set term aqua" or "set term x11".
This tells gnuplot where to draw the output. The TERM environment variable
is a shell variable that is imported into programs such as emacs and tells them
the capabilities of your terminal. Totally unrelated.
If you continue to have problems with the fink install of gnuplot, you are
+welcome
to try the version I compiled here:
http://www.lee-phillips.org/info/Macintosh/gnuplot.html
It has support for Aquaterm and seems to have no problem with that, Apple's
X11, or XDarwin/OroborosX.
