Hey, can this technique be used to work around the dreaded + key
problem with KDE's KWrite / Kate and Apples X11. I DESPERATELY want to
use it for programming but cannot because of this bug :[.
Thanks for any info.
Regards,
Tim

I've got xfig working on my Ti Powerbook. It's a pretty nice drawing
program. But one issue is rather frustrating. Many of the keyboard
accelerators don't work on my machine, because xfig doesn't recognize
the
Mac option key as the "meta" key.
The function keys can be remapped in xfig's Fig file, but this can't
be done
with option key.
It seems to me that this must be an X11 issue. Is there any way to
configure
X11 so that the option key is recognized as the meta key?
I am rather a newbie to Xwindows. I'd appreciate any help.
I think _this_ is the most requested feature for X11, to use Option
for Meta. You can do it yourself by defining .Xmodmap (in your home
directory) as:
!
! On the TiBook, the following keys have caps as listed:
!
! 60 enter (next to right Clover)
! 64 shift (both shifts)
! 67 ctrl
! 68 fn-shift (both shifts)
! 66 option
! 63 "Clover" (both Clovers)
! 59 delete
! 84 "enter" (fn-return)
! 118 (fn-enter)
! 125 "backspace" (fn-delete)
!
! The default Apple mapping is:
! keycode 59 = BackSpace
! keycode 60 = KP_Enter
! keycode 63 = Meta_L
! keycode 64 = Shift_L
! keycode 65 = Caps_Lock
! keycode 66 = Alt_L
! keycode 67 = Control_L
! keycode 68 = Shift_R
! keycode 69 = Alt_R
! keycode 70 = Control_R
! keycode 125 = Delete
!
! I prefer to have meta on option and alt on "Clover"
! I make the enter next to right Clover be Meta_R
! I leave BackSpace and Delete alone, and teach xterm
! to interpret them correctly.
! Cf. http://www.squish.net/docs/delbs.html
! (for powerbooks, where enter is next to right Clover)
keycode 60 = Meta_R
keycode 69 = Meta_R
keycode 63 = Alt_L
keycode 66 = Meta_L
clear Mod1
clear Mod2
add Mod1 = Alt_L Alt_R
add Mod2 = Meta_L Meta_R
