Hi ken,
Unfortunately macs are not very well represented in xkeycaps.
I like to use it anyway because, when combined with an xmodmap file,
it will allow you to at least, visually see what key you are
pressing. It shows nicely the keycodes also!
What I usually do is to experiment with the different keyboards, until
I find one that detects the key that I am interested in. Then I modify
my xmodmap file, run xmodmap, and try again.
Creating a xkeycaps configuration file is not difficult (I did it for
a laptop many years ago), but it is a bit time consuming.
Warning, don't trust xkeycaps to change your keyboard, unless you know
exactly what you are doing (and you don't want to restart X11).
