Aidan,
That's going the wrong way. He wants the Mac to
offer XDM sessions to other systems (his PC
running eXceed in particular), not the other way
'round.

He could try
/usr/X11R6/bin/XDarwin -fullscreen -query xdmcp-host-name -once
where xdmcp-host-name is the host making the XDM session available.
