Two things you can try.
Connect to the remote host using
ssh -X
instead of whatever you're doing now. After connection, do NOT change
the setting of DISPLAY on the remote host. (The login scripts there
may automatically set it, so try to check whether or not they do.)
Or, create a file named /etc/X0.hosts on your local machine, and in
it put the name or IP address of the remote machine.

I did add an entry onto the remote server in my ~/.bash_profile that reads:
export DISPLAY=ip address:0 but still get this response, even after
doing a "source ~/.bash_profile"
Can anyone help?
