Sorry for being dumb, but what are the obvious reasons? Does
everything packaged by Fink have to be GPLed if it isn't already?
No, but there are so many GPL'd programs *in* fink that it's not
practical to have X11 libraries that are GPL-incompatible...
I believe the new XFree86 license only applies to the X11 server, and
not to any of the X11 client libraries. I'm not sure of this, however.
If that's true, then there shouldn't be any problem with Fink or any
GPL'd X11 client program.
I see that Fink includes OpenSSL. OpenSSL's license is also
GPL-incompatible - it includes a similar acknowledgment clause.
However, a library with a "GPL-incompatible" license is only a problem
if it is used as a static library (rather than dynamic). OpenSSL may be
dynamic-only, avoiding that problem.
