Try checking "Delete key sends backspace" in the apple Terminal "window settings/Keyboard" ?

Hi.

I have noticed a strange behavior with the delete key in an xterm that I
never noticed before. Here is the problem:

I open up an xterm in Apple X11 (V1.0 / Panther / Powerbook G4) and then
ssh from my laptop to a Sun running Solaris 8. When I type at the command
line of the xterm, I can use the delete key on my laptop as expected.
However, in two particular situations, delete doesn't behave properly.
For example:

tanelorn[15] rm junk
rm: remove junk (yes/no)? x^H^H^H^H^H

I get the same behavior when I use more to read a long file, and use the /
command to search for a word. If I mistype the word and try to use
delete, I get the ^H^H^H behavior.

If I do these same tasks in a terminal window on the Sun (which are
technically dtterms, I think, since I use the CDE window manager on the
Sun), the backspace key on the Sun keyboard behaves properly.

On both the Mac & Sun I use tcsh as my shell, and the TERM environment
variable is set to "xterm" when I login to the Solaris box using ssh.

Any ideas what is happening?

Thanks.
