Is DISPLAY still set?
no.
Also, any error messages in the Console?
All I get is:
[h24-67-135-74:~] markian% xterm
xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
which console? in Utilities/Console.app?
however, console.log is showing:
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8718
Looking for devices matching vendor ID=1193 and product ID=8717
repeatedly. I don't think that's at all related, but now I'm really
confused. WTF is that?!
Note,
Panther changed the default shell from csh to bash. Make sure your
environment variables are correctly set.
I'm still using tcsh. so something else got clobbered somewhere.
note that if I type setenv DISPLAY localhost:0.0, it works fine; I just
want to know what/where is the "proper", ie shell independent way to do
this. if X11 is running, the display number must be available
somewhere.
