Dear Matt
I have the same problem. I cannot display or even started the NMR
program XWINNMR run on Indys from my MacOSX 10.3.
I found: http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1232.html
A little down it says: Changes in Beta 3:
* Added Pseudocolor (8-bit) visual plane support so
applications requiring 8 bit support should find the visuals by
default. You can also add "-depth 8" (see Xquartz man page) when
starting the X Server if you want to run it only in 8 bit mode, which
is unrecommended as OpenGL support is not available in 8 bit mode.
But this is not included in the X11 version I have with my brand new
Powerbook G4.!!
Xwinnmr is run on hundreds of old indys O2s around the world. But on
new systems is now only installed on Linux and windows systems. I
have 7 indys running Xwinnmr and I want to contact them and run the
instruments from home! (VPN + X11). (VPN + chicken of the VNC takes
care of the windows systems).
If someone at Apple reads this. It could be possible in the future
to run the next version of the Xwinnmr - TOPSPIN on Apple OSXs if
Bruker decides to compile it and give support for OSX . See
www.bruker.com and www.bruker.de about xwinnmr/TOPSPIN. A new
marked for Apple could open up.
But Apple must make it possible to contact the old Indys! And pseudo
color in X11 is definitely needed.
here is what happens anyway:
ssh -X grignard.uio.no /usr/bin/X11/xterm
email@hidden's password: XXXXXXXXXX
(In the new X11 window that comes up: )
froderi@grignard ~> xwinnmr

Xcpu: Cannot get visual class PseudoColor
Please configure your X-Server to
PseudoColor and 8 bit per plane
visual class "TrueColor" not supported.
Please configure 8 bit per plane.
Program is exiting...

Good ideas?
