All,
I have seen emails about similar stuff going around in the past months,
but I don't remember having seen this exact problem.
I want to run X11 apps on a remote G5 OsX machine of a friend of mine.
We are on the same LAN, with a 100Mb ethernet.
He does not always have X11 running. I need X11 to run my things on his
machine, and display on mine. I do not have access to his machine
physically, so it's not possible to go there and start X11.
If I ssh on his machine and try starting X11, using
open -a /Application/Utilities/X11.app/
I get an error message like "can not establish connection with
WindowServer()"
which I understand as: I do not have a Aqua session running on his
machine, thus I am not entitled to start X11.
I had never before started the OsX X11 with "startx". Out of
desperation, I gave it a try, but it gives me a bunch of crap about
directories or files not existing (although some of them do). I did not
research the "startx" option further, as I don't know if this is a
viable option to start the X server with X11.app.
Any comments or suggestion will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Francois
