We figured out that this problem is because Apple has X11Forwarding set
to "no" by default in /etc/sshd_config! This means that any new OS X
(at least for 10.3, it looks like) box by default will not allow you to
tunnel X connections from it. Bleh.
Solution:
You have to double check that the following line in /etc/sshd_config is
commented out:
#X11Forwarding no
and add the following to the end of the file:
X11Forwarding yes

I recently got a powerbook laptop and installed the same things (no

I would like to work remotely with this machine on my G5
However when I ssh -X to my G5 I can not open emacs or matlab.
I don't think it is a problem with the way I configured the laptop as
if I ssh -X to other more standard Unix machines I can open windows
from them.
here is what the G 5 tells me when I try -
after I log in it warns:
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11
forwarding.
Hmmm. What does "echo $DISPLAY" give you?
And "which xauth"?
Cheers,
