Hi Dave,
I would try this on a test machine but try:
1) sudo rm -rf /usr/X11R6
2) Reinstall X11 via X11User.pkg
You should be able to grab the X11User.pkg from your installation CD.
And install it like you install any other package.

your average user think of doing that? Most likely not!
