Well, I DO have the same problem.
Just now, I tried to start emacs21 and got this message:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
"""
emacs: Cannot connect to X server :0.0.
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or use `-d'.
Also use the `xauth' program to verify that you have the proper
authorization information needed to connect the X server.
An insecure way to solve the problem may be to use `xhost'.
"""
- at the same time an X11 application (lyx) that I had been running
continuously for a few days is still connected to X11 as if nothing
happened.
The issue has come up on the fink-users list a while ago, and after
observing this several more times, my feeling is that it doesn't just
have to do with putting the laptop to sleep. Instead, it seems to me
that this happens when the computer is disconnected from one
network and connected to a new one. The IP address changes, and
maybe that's what X11 doesn't like.
What about you - are you connecting to multiple networks during the
day?

Just as a point of reference, I do not have this problem. My powerbook
shows uptime 49 days and I close the lid and
put it to sleep several times a day. All the while X11.app has been
running since shortly after booting and I have
never restarted it. I use airport wireless connections from the local
LAN daily. I connect to a linux system and a
solaris system using ssh and have no difficulty displaying X apps back
onto the powerbook. Here are a few specifics, I
am sure there are lots more, I can report any additional info if it
would be helpful.
OS X 10.3.4
1.5 GHz PowerPC G4
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Powerbook G4 15"

I've used X11 since the betas and it has worked well for me. Just
recently I used a wireless laptop for the first time and noticed that,
after sleeping the computer (hence, I assume, losing the network
connection), that upon awakening X11 applications failed to run
because
they could not connect to the display. So I was wondering if this is a
bug or feature. My usage was at a conference, hence limited in
duration, and my "solution" was to restart X11, but this rapidly
became
tedious.
Thanks,
