Put a .Xmodmap file on your home directory.
I'm not sure how Italian and US keyboard layouts differ, but Japanese
keyboards also differ from US keyboard: for example, shift+8 of Japanese
keyboards yield '(' instead of '*'.
There is a sample of .Xmodmap file for Japanese keyboard at:
http://www006.upp.so-net.ne.jp/t_tanaka/data/Xmodmap
After you read this file, you will understand how to yield '(' from
shift+8 of Japanese keyboard. So, you can modify it for your Italian
keyboard.
How to check the keycode?? Try 'xev' (X event monitor) (you can
launch it from xterm.)
