I think the easiest way to get X11/Motif up on the Mac is through the OS
X package manager called "fink;" see http://fink.sourceforge.net.
I believe that using the Aqua interface would be a significant advantage
and even necessary in some markets. For scientific applications, you
will find more users that are familiar with Unix and X11, but many Mac
users don't know about X11 and you will not be able to sell to them.
It's a judgement call in terms of whom you want to reach.

I'm into an initial investigation of porting my SGI IRIX X/Motif application
to Mac OS X.
1. I don't see much mention of Motif anywhere. Can someone please direct
me to some links that might help? I'm trying to determine if I want to use
X/Motif, or rewrite the GUIs in my application to native Mac look & feel.
2. Assuming that I decide to use my existing X/Motif look & feel, how
acceptable might it be to Mac users? This is a commercial application that
I am trying to sell in a Mac environment. Am I going to be wasting my time?
Would I be better off spending my time rewriting the GUI portion of my
application? I'd like the least-costly approach of course, but I'm not very
familiar with generic Mac users.
