When running a legacy application (requiring 8 bit pseudocolor) displaying on Apple's X11 it complains that it can't allocate enough colours for its base colours and planes. Looking at the default colour map it's easy to see why - a fair number of the entries are already allocated.
This even with the X server:
- running in "full screen" mode
- with 256 colours
- using the preferred mwm window manager (open motif) or quartz-wm
Are there any settings that can be adjusted to make sure that there are only a minimum number of colours allocated in the default colour map (preferably only black and white) so this application will actually have a chance to run properly.
