I'm pretty sure that the "appropriate X gesture" under xterm is simply
selecting with the left mouse botton. Certainly it works often enough
(and in such a way) to persuade me that this is what's going on; I
can't
see any other way to do the copy.
I use mouse-right to copy the selection to the X clipboard in an xterm,
meta-w in emacs. Getting the selection to the X clipboard makes it
available for Edit/Copy (to the Mac clipboard). Not saying this is
right, it's what I have learned to do. I would think that copying to
the X clipboard should also copy to the Mac clipboard so that you don't
need the extra step of Edit/Copy to get it there.
In most xapps control-right/middle/left-mouse should give a menu of
gestures, but in xterm it seems to pop up in a teeny window with
everything clipped. Don't know whose bug that is.
I've swapped alt and meta so I can use emacs and leave key equivalents
on.
Do you mean you swapped this under emacs? I didn't think the X11 world
knew about both Alt and Meta: or can I swap them in the X11
application?
I can't see any way to do this. I find this very confusing...
I've used xmodmap to do this. Mentioned several times in the archives.
One gotcha is that this affects the mouse button emulation too (so
Command is middle and Option is right).
This all could be better...
