It's also distributed (but not installed) along with some machines.

On my iMac X11 is on the DVD distribution (only 1 dvd, though).
The "System" directory on the DVD does not show up under the Finder.
So you do this: from the Finder "GO" menu choose "Go to folder"
and then type:
/Volumes/<DVD name>/System/Installation/Packages/
then you'll see the X11User.pkg which you can install. Otherwise,
you can navigate there using the terminal, just cd in the same
directory.
As for Xcode, the Xcode distribution should already be on your
machine ready to be installed under the directory
/Applications/Installers/Developer Tools
just click the package icon to initiate the installation.
