Yes, I find this direction works every time, which is good. Except when
(x)emacs is involved, but I know that emacs cut/paste handling is
fundamentally evil.

This direction not so good. Typically in my experience I have, the first
time I have selected a region and copied it, about five seconds to paste
before the selection is cancelled. However, the second time I seem to get
more leeway. Tends to depend where I click before trying to paste.

I guess my complaints are three:
1. I *really* would like to lose that stupid xterm that comes up every
time I restart X11, but I don't think that's an option.
2. The edit box to edit the command is rather small. Here's what's in
mine:
xterm -geometry 80x50 -T 'Saturn' -e ssh -CX saturn
Here's what I can actually see (and this is even while I'm editing it):
xterm -geometry 80x50 -T 'Sa
3. Shortcuts. I may have been being dim, but it's not at all obvious, at
least it wasn't to me.

Duh. You're quite right. That wasn't obvious to me, but it's true:
typing Command-N (or whatever I should call it) creates a new window now
I've set up a shortcut for that.
Hmm. Except, because I have to disable "key equivalents" so I can use
emacs, Command-N actually doesn't do anything at all now. Seems to depend
where the focus is.
Sigh. Are Apple actually working on this software?
