that's it - type
xhost + 'return'
in your shell - you'll get some info you having disabled some security stuff

hmmm - don't know about that, but probably (in my thoroughly unknowledgable opinion) some security issue....

do you have a ~/.xinit file? If not tjeck e.g. the FINK homepage for some info on that. Are you able to start X-events from a non-X shell (Terminal.app)?
Sorry I couldn't offer any quick fix - I'm certainly *not* a UNIX-wiz...
