It's strange that it would have to extract the .ttf files from the
.dfont files. I believe Freetype 2 can read dfont files directly.
Although a dfont file can contain multiple fonts and I don't know
how you specify which one. I seem to recall it was something
like "times.dfont;1" "times.dfont;2"
The fondu program (http://fondu.sourceforge.net/) that is used in Fink's
applesystemfonts package extracts all of them. For example, if you run
fondu /Library/Fonts/TimesCY.dfont
you get the files
TimesCY-10.bdf TimesCYBold-10.bdf
TimesCYBoldItalic-10.bdf TimesCYItalic-10.bdf
TimesCY-12.bdf TimesCYBold-12.bdf
TimesCYBoldItalic-12.bdf TimesCYItalic-12.bdf
TimesCY.ttf TimesCYBold.ttf
TimesCYBoldItalic.ttf TimesCYItalic.ttf
