So then it would be better to have an OS option to have all mouse
buttons do the same thing for such users by default, rather than
hamstringing all of us just because these folks can't get their mouse
clicks together. :-)

These people exist. I've met some of them [*]. And Apple seems to
want to cater for their needs, which is nice.
I've met some as well. For a real computer newbie, it's hard enough to
wrap the brain around WIMP (Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointing device),
without adding multiple mouse buttons to the mix.
It might be nicer to at least have the option of a real mouse when
ordering, but...
Yes! I get these drawers full of one-button mice I've never plugged
in,
simply because I am forced to buy one from Apple!
