Limitations: Of course this does not make the Darwin DDX grow
features it does not support. So the X11.app built this way does
not have an identical feature set to the standard X11.app. The main
features that Darwin DDX is missing are rootless full screen
support and the option to track Aqua keyboard layout changes as
they occur. Lines using unsupported features in darwin/apple are
commented out with DARWIN_DDX_MISSING.
Does this include mouse clicks and marking? After creating the
X11.app, I discovered that while mouse clicks will raise a window,
the application does not see the click. And the mouse will no
longer highlight text or select menu items in X windows.
Yes, I generally find mouse clicks to be an important feature to
support. :-) Thanks for the testing. I have updated the patch to fix
this bug and add the option to track Aqua keyboard layout changes as
they occur. The top of the X.Org tree now allows this option (for
XDarwin as well). I have posted a new tarball and patch at
<http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1032282&group_id=18034&atid=318034>.
This patch is intended to be applied to the top of the X.Org tree.
Note that with version of X11.app the only missing feature of Apple's
X11 that I am aware of is rootless fullscreen support. We are very
near the day that the X.Org tree will be a complete superset of
Apple's X11. Please let me know if you discover any more bugs and/or
other features that are supported in Apple's X11.
Also of interest is whether it is worth providing in the X.Org tree
an X11.app type UI (or for that matter whether we should just switch
over completely from XDarwin). Doing the abstraction correctly to
allow multiple UI's is not free.
