Proxy only allows you to launch another window manager and still have
copy and paste from non X11 apps.

Ciao Vincenzo,
There are several things wrong in your .xinitrc:
- the exec to quartz-wm should *not* be background'd
- there's no need to exec the gkrellm and autocutsel
- I don't know what "only-proxy" is supposed to do, but on my machine,
quartz-wm doesn't like it.
- I don't see what the . /sw/bin/init.sh is doing in here. It's much
better in the .profile or .bashrc. Otherwise you don't have access to
the fink stuff from e.g. term.app
try:
/sw/bin/gkrellm &
/sw/bin/autocutsel &
exec /usr/X11R6/bin/quartz-wm

I have a problem with X11.app in macosx 10.3.8.
I have ~/.xinitrc and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but when I run X11.app
from the icon in applications/utilities,
i get only xterm as x11 default startup program. If I run "startx"
from the terminal I will get everything
specified in ~/.xinitrc but I don't get the quartz-wm menu bar with
the list of applications, I get only the X menu bar without the list
of applications.
More, if X11 is running (started by command line), and I click over
gimp icon, it says that there are no X11 running, but if I start gimp
from command line another X11 environment is kicked off, but this
time it reads ~/.xinitrc and it kick off the X11 menu bar with the
funny applications menu (that's what I wont by clicking over
X11.app).
X11 version 1.0 - XFree86 4.3.0, installed by apple's bundle cd.
I've attached the .xinitrc file<xinitrc>
