First, Mac Finder hides all the Unix directories. You can force Finder
to take you to /usr but you have to use one of the menu
options...something like Go To Folder. I recommend you try PathFinder
from www.cocoatech.com. It is much better than Finder and shows you all
your directories and files.
Second, I believe your Unix cp command has a typo. You entered
CIA_WDB2.jpg. Should be jpd.

I've installed Fink and FinkCommander and now would like to try to run
some *nix progs.
Problem 1:
~~~~~~~~~~
I've tried (and tried, and tried) to install Xrmap
<http://frmas.free.fr/li_1.htm> (bottom of page). Eventually I seem to
have it installed however on running the program I get the error...
Couldn't open input vector file `/usr/share/rmap/CIA_WDB2.jpd' !!
I have the correct file (CIA_WDB2.jpd), but don't know where to put
it. The instructions say...
Decompress the vector map and install it as
/usr/share/rmap/CIA_WDB2.jpd
I can cd into /usr/share/rmap/ and ls its contents, however when I use
the Mac OS finder to search for the listed files (so I can identify
the dir xrmap expects the CIA file to be in) they show up either not
at all, differently or with none of the other files are in the same
dir (suggesting I have the wrong dir). I've searched for info on how
to copy files in Unix with the command line so I can copy the file
from where I know it is to /usr/share/rmap/ but can't get this to work
either. I get this...
KevsG5:~ kevinsimpson$ cp CIA_WDB2.jpg /usr/share/rmap/CIA_WDB2.jpd
cp: CIA_WDB2.jpg: No such file or directory
KevsG5:~ kevinsimpson$ ls
? Library Web work
ADMIN Movies birthdates OLD.cpt
CIA_WDB2.jpd Music birthdates.cpt
Correspondence PM Mag Ad font work
Desktop Pictures resources
Documentation Public usr
Documents Sites xrmap-2.10
It would help if I could just find /usr/ - when I...
KevsG5:~ kevinsimpson$ ls /usr/
in xterm, I get...
X11R6 include libexec sbin
standalone
bin lib local share usr
but when I search for these files/dirs with the Mac OS finder I can't
find them!
Problem 2:
~~~~~~~~~~
I've installed Fontforge and have it working - I can load TrueType
fonts but when I load in PS Type1 fonts the bitmaps show up but not
the outlines. Do I need to install some lib or other?
I'm probably missing something very fundamental. Could some one help
me? I'm a unix newbie so be gentle.
Many thanks,
K.
