Idea. Why not just make a Finder Toolbar/Sidebar alias to /usr or
whatever hidden directory if its that important to get to. After all,
this is Mac/Unix, Finder-symlinks are cool and they work in Terminal.

Until you log out. Then the next time you log in you have to Go To
Folder again to show the /usr directory. I could never get Finder to
remember that I wanted to see hidden directories.

Once the Finder window with the hidden directory is closed, Go To
Finder... is required again for access- on my machine. This is
appropriate behavior from both a security and interface consistency
perspective (for me).
