Usually this means that your ~/.xinitrc is incorrect. However...
I cannot reinstall X11user.pkg. It says that newer software is
installed, maybe due to an upgrade to tiger yesterday?
Are you saying you are running Tiger? If this is the case, you should
install the X11 packages from Tiger, too.
