On the topic of trackballs, I would like to chime in and recommend the
Kensington "Expert Mouse" (which is a rather confusing product name):
http://www.kensington.com/html/2200.html
I used one of the older models for a couple of years with NetBSD
without any problems. It was very comfortable to use, smooth movement
and it felt solidly built. Shame it wasn't mine really.
The Kensington "Orbit" trackball I have now is a poor substitute which
I bought, frankly, because it was cheap. I cannot recommend it: aside
from only having two buttons (and thus being of no use to the original
poster) I find the ball placement a little uncomfortable (although I
still prefer it to using a mouse).
I have just 'bitten the bullet' and ordered one of the new optical
"Expert Mouse" models. Anyone here using one of these with X11? I'm
curious to know if the scroll-ring works (I'm hoping the system just
sees it as a standard scroll-wheel, rather than requiring some specific
Kensington driver).
Best wishes,
Henry.

It's not a mouse, but I prefer Logitech's TrackMan Wheel. It's a
trackball that's operated with the thumb. I have joint problems,
especially in my wrists and elbows, that are aggravated by mice. The
TrackMan doesn't cause any problems. When I put one on the Mac my
wife and kids use, they much preferred it to the mouse they had been
using.

Why not just buy a 3-button mouse? Logitech has one for $15.
(I hate the Apple 1-button mouse. It is way too limiting.)
Speaking of this, what are peoples favorite 3 button Mice?
I bought a MacMice bluetooth 3-button/scroll wheel mouse. I liked a
lot of things about it, but the mouse movement was so jerky that I
gave up and went back to an Apple single button mouse.
