I suggest you go down to CompUSA and try out some mice. You can test
them right there in the showroom. Everybody likes something different
in a mouse, so I don't think you'll learn much by taking a survey.
I was surprised to find that almost all of the newer mice are very very
nice.

I'm very happy with my new Contour "Perfit Mouse Optical".
It comes in a range of sizes, so you can fit your hand better, and has
both left-handed and right-handed versions.
The left-handed version has the left and right buttons already
interchanged, so that the index finger of the left hand does button 1,
just as the index finger of the right hand does button 1 on a typical
three button mouse (where "typical" = "assumes right handed"). No need
to make change any settings in a pref pane in order to get correct
left-handed behavior.
The middle button is a true button, not a double-duty scroll wheel as
on the others I have seen. The scroll wheel is on the side, and
operated by the thumb. I find this comfortable.
Mine is model "PMO-L-L" where one of the L's is for large, the other
for left, but I don't know which is which!

Why not just buy a 3-button mouse? Logitech has one for $15.
(I hate the Apple 1-button mouse. It is way too limiting.)
Speaking of this, what are peoples favorite 3 button Mice?
I bought a MacMice bluetooth 3-button/scroll wheel mouse. I liked a
lot of things about it, but the mouse movement was so jerky that I
gave up and went back to an Apple single button mouse.
