i'm attempting to build xorg's v6.8.1 on OSX 10.3.7.
per what i've learned on- & off-list, i've done the following:
(1) move Apple's /usr/X11R6 & /etc/X11 aside
(2) cvs ... co -P -r HEAD xc
(3) per thread @
http://lists.apple.com/archives/x11-users/2004/Sep/msg00008.html,
apply x11app.diff & apple.tgz patches
(4) avoid a shadow directory build, rumored to confound the OSX XCode build
(5) rather, do an "in place" build w/:
make World >& world.log
make install >& install.log
make install.man >& man.log
This all looks correct.
to this point all goes swimmingly. the build/install _seems_ to
complete without error.
Unfortunately the build is very poor about telling you when there are
errors and it just keeps on chugging along even if its fails
horribly. The best way to look for errors is to do something like:
grep -w Error world.log
unfortunately, there's no trace of either an X11.app or XDarwin.app
anywhere -- neither in "/Applications/Utilities", nor in the build
tree, nor anywhere else for that matter ...
obviously, some here have been able to do this in the past ...
anyone successfully built these apps _recently_ ?
The top of the tree has issues from time to time. You say you are
building X11R6.8.1. What tag/branch are you using?
