hi again, robert,
having stepped back to the XORG-6_8-branch, per my last email, my world.log
now shows two different make errors, towit:
I have a working X11.app based on Xorg 6.8.1 as compiled with `make world' on
Jan 8, 2005. When I enter the command
cat xorg/xc/CVS/Tag
I see
NHEAD
I do not know whether that is important to this problem.
I do know that I ran Torrey's Patch only on the initila release with a clean
install. I have not tried to apply it to an CVS HEAD *after* his last patch
was committed. So, why not use the CVS date request to grab the CVS that was
in place when the final version of the patch was released.
<snip>
re-doing what's known to be done for a sanity check is never a bad idea .... =)
sooo, with the goal of best relicating your working situation, i've tried to
check-out the archived HEAD revision predating Jan 5, '05:
% cvs co -P -r HEAD -D 2005-01-05 xc
but, the result came up empty (!?). hmmm, i'd have thought that 'HEAD' *was*
stamped/archived as the 'default' branch. is it not, here?
so, trying, simply:
% cvs co -P -D 2005-01-05 xc
'works', in that it pulls down a fresh src tree.
that said -- and not entirely sure what i've got -- checking for completeness'
sake :
% cat xc/CVS/Entries

rather than NHEAD tag, which implies that you checked out HEAD, note my Tag ==
D2005.01.05.08.00.00.
whether or not this is equivalent to what you started with, i simply dunno.
The sudo is important. Parts of the system do not get made until the install
phase (so far as I can tell), and depending on the privileges you have for
X11.app aready in place or /usr/X11R6, you may not get those pieces made. I
have watched the install make in the Xserver directories, and it appears to
call Xcode to make the Macish parts of the application, even though it looked
to me they had been made in make world.
all clear. no worries. i _am_ installing as root.
on the XORG-6_8-branch build i tried, the xcode segs were called, built &
installed ... just not working, as yet.
also fwiw, i built up XFree86 4.4.0 -- XDarwin from that tree seems to work as
expected ...
now, back to 'hurry up n wait' while this builds ...
cheers,
richard
