Hi,
The HFS+ file system which underpins OS X is case-preserving but not
case-sensitive.
This means that if you name a file FOO it will be written as FOO
because the file system is preserving the case.
The file system, however, sees "foo" and "FOO" as the same so when you
try to create a new file named "foo" it quite rightly complains that
one already exists.
It's a little quirky I know, and I can honestly tell you I have never
noticed it before now.
I hope this helps.
