We had the nearly the same problem for OpenOffice.org X11 version.
When OOo was started by one user and X11 up and running a second
user using the same Mac with a different account and the first user
still logged in and X11 open couldn't start OOo and got an time out
error.
This time out error was a bit irritating because the "real" problem
is that you have to set the display enviorment right for every
user. This is kind of normal on Linux, -nix and BSDs but not for
Mac users.
If you open a terminal and type "export DISPLAY=0.0" (for tcsh it
would be setenv DISPLAY 0.0) for the first user and "open
/Applications/Utilities/X11.app" the first users X11 is opend on
disply 0.0. For the second user you type "export DISPLAY=0.1" and
"open /Applications/Utilities/X11.app" and so on. X11 now is opend
on display 0.1 and should come up. A little Apple or Shellscript
that detects which DISPLAY is used and adds one for the next user
automates this. The user only needs to be instructed to use this
Script to start X11 instead of the origin X11.
