Did you try the -Y option? It's not clear from your post whether
you did or not. I had a similar problem and -Y resolved it for me.
Huh. That made it work! Now why the heck would enabling "trusted
X11 forwarding" make a difference in having some of the X protocol
recognized and not other parts? Did they assign "trust levels" to
different X-Windows operations? And why does it work with just "-
X" on newer clients? In any case I have traded my 'annoyed
bafflement' for the more desirable 'simple curiosity.'
