I have a favorite, simple, dual lister file manager called "Worker" that
I run on my Linux systems. It's use is very familiar to me since it is
actually a clone of a phenomenally functional file manager that I ran
on my numerous Amiga's for many years.
There is now a Fink package of Worker available for Mac X11, but it is
classified as "experimental" and has dependencies that force the install
of one of the Darwin compatible x11 systems:
---
fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual
dependency. The candidates:
(1) xfree86: Free X11 implementation for Darwin and Mac OS X
(2) xorg: Free X11 implementation for Darwin and Mac OS X
---
My OSeX 3.9 system is set up with the stock Apple X11 package from the
Panther install DVD. I made the mistake one time of allowing Fink to install
the xfree86 as a package dependency and it hosed my entire X11 config.
I had to erase and re-install my entire X11 system to get it working again,
since I didn't know where to look for the problems.
So the big question becomes:
Is there a way to (safely and easily!) have BOTH the Apple X11 and
the Darwin Xorg installed and functionling on my Macs?
Some of the posts I've read on this list seem to suggest this is possible,
which is why I'm asking. However, I'm not up to doing a lot of somersaults and
handsprings just to install a slightly redundant file utility, no matter how
functional and familiar it is to me. (More the case since Apple has
disappointingly decided to drop support of the xDarwin project.)
Much thanks for any help!
peace
aaron
