My SWAG (Scientific Wild-Assed Guess) is that your PATH doesn't include
/usr/X11R6/bin so it's not finding the xterm program. One could go into
the Applications drop-down, the customize the xterm with the full path name
to xterm or do it in $HOME/.xinitrc.
