Inconceivable!
Sorry, but I'm really not hallucinating. It works here.
I don't actually doubt you -- I was quoting "The Princess Bride" for
humorous effect. :-)
I'm not really humor-impaired.... just slower today than other
days.. :)
It was a bit obscure, sorry...
The only additional thing I can think of is choice of window
manager. I use
vtwm, which is pretty low-rent (basically twm with virtual desktop
capabilities) and pretty old. My (possibly faulty) understanding
is that some
newer window and desktop managers (kde, gnome, xfce, others?) do
not use the
same cut/paste buffers as the old-time WMs. I also have
WindowMaker and fvwm2
installed, but neither of them is exactly bleeding edge, either.
Next time I
need to restart X11, I can try one of them and see if I get
different behavior.
Aha! I of course use quartz-wm, which is the default and I'll bet
it's what most others use. We may have a major clue here.
You said you had a vanilla set up, dang it! :-) Or, should I say,
thank goodness, as it might contain an answer!
