What is the EXACT thing you're trying to do that does not work?
Give a
description of what you do with the mouse and keyboard and the
result that
surprises you.
1) Use the mouse and click the button, then I drag it across text
which is
in an X11 window. For instance, an xterm.
2) I push command-C, or* go to Edit and down to "copy." Sometimes I
hit
command-C like 3 or 4 times out of hope.
3) I click or* alt-tab into another Aqua application. Camino or
Safari are
the most common examples.
4) I place the cursor where I would like to paste the info from
X11, and
then press command-V or* paste.
5) The result that surprises me is that sometimes NOTHING is
pasted, and
sometimes the contents of the clipboard prior to step 1 are pasted.
This is
surprising, because I think pressing command-C should copy the
selected
text. Note: This does not ALWAYS happen. Sometimes copy and paste
works
fine! In fact, if I go back into X11, I note that the appropriate
text is
still selected. I copy again, and sometimes it works the 2nd time,
sometimes
not. Sometimes I deselect and reselect and copy, and it works, and
sometimes
it still doesn't.
*: When I say "or" here, I mean that the option doesn't matter. All 8
disjunction cells produce the same unreliable copying behavior.
This is what I do also, and I get the same kind of misbehavior. In
the case of xemacs, I tend to click on the "Copy" button in the
toolbar rather than using Cmd-C.
Interestingly, I'm experiencing copy-and-paste failure in xemacs
right now as I compose this post. None of the following works for
copying in xemacs and pasting into Terminal.app (I get the old
contents of the clipboard/pasteboard):
* click on "Copy" in toolbar
* select Edit->Copy from the *xemacs* menu
* click on "Cut" in toolbar (the selection disappears as expected,
but I get the old contents on paste)
* select Edit->Cut from the xemacs menu (same behavior as "Cut"
toolbar button)
* invoking the xemacs function copy-primary-selection
In the past, I could sometimes unwedge things by copying in Aqua,
pasting in Aqua, and then retrying copying from xemacs. No go this
time.
But this is where it gets interesting. If I now select Edit->Copy
from *X11.app* (or hit Cmd-C), then pasting to Aqua works. So, at
least in this particular instance of failure, Cmd-C works as
advertised. It's possible I haven't tried using Cmd-C enough in the
past and that things would work more often if I stuck with
exclusively using Cmd-C. I'll try this and see how things go.
