Again this should not be necessary. middle button click should
paste the
selected text from step 1.
Select and paste has been a part of X11 since long before Apple
ever had
anything to do with it. For whatever reason Apple did not implement
it properly
when using X11 on OSX. Too bad.

You're misunderstanding. He's pasting into an Aqua app.
That is no excuse for it not working. The machine has a mouse. I
want to use
it for something besides scrolling through 10 level deep menus.
There is no
excuse for Apple not to have a config option to enable use of the
mouse.
It works fine, so no excuse is needed, and I never mentioned using a
menu, and I have never seen one 10 levels deep. :-)
If you want to paste with your mouse, try right-clicking and choose
"Paste" from the contextual menu that appears. And before you go
hollering about the extra click in the menu, consider all the other
options that you get with that right-click menu choice. It's not
such a heinous world after all... It *would* be a bit nice if middle-
click pasted from the clipboard in Aqua, though, since it's such a
common operation.
Note that X11 only pastes TEXT with a middle click, and does not
support drag-and-drop copy/paste, which would sometimes be very
convenient to have.
