Well, as I noted some months ago on this list, I consistently have a
problem copying _into_ X, specifically into konsole. If I copy from an
aqua app, switch into X, and try middle-click, cntrl-insert, or past
from konsole menu, nothing happens. The only work around I have is to
paste into some other window, reselect the text, and then middle click
it into konsole (or call pbpaste, if I'm at the command line). I
suppose you could claim this is a konsole bug, but it's not clear why
it should matter than I'm using konsole rather than xterm. This
problem is 100% reproducible, everytime. Any insight would be
appreciated.
It's beginning to seem like xclipboard cures all ills -- I just tried
pasting from Aqua into konsole, with no luck, and then I ran
xclipboard and everything started working just fine. It's still a
bug, but it cuts out a few steps.
(I'm apparently not the first person to notice this -- http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040928100753482
--- I guess I missed the memo.)
(While on the subject of X problems, let's also not forget the many
months that putting your machine to sleep while X11 was the active app
would completely hose your input devices. Or the lack of xprint
support. Apple's X11 support has really left a lot to be desired. Now
then Ben is working hard [Thanks Ben!] on getting Xorg into Leopard,
perhaps Apple has realized that this need to improve and we can expect
better things in the future. But my solution to my apple X11 woes has
been to use a linux desktop, or, when travelling, to reboot into
Debian. I thus minimize my use of apple's X11.)
Thanks for the kind words :) Sometimes it seems that the closer we
get, in terms of integration between X11.app and the rest of the
environment, the more shocking it is when we find rough spots.
However, I'd rather be faced with high expectations and big bug lists
than low expectations because people have stopped caring. We're trying!
Ben
