I have tried
sudo fc-cache -f
Didn't seem to fix the issue. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd hate to
have to use M$ Office instead of Open Office ;-).
The "font path" message is a red herring; it appears all the time, even
when X11 starts up correctly.
What you see is a correct start up / shut down sequence, no error
involved :-)
If you don't want X11 to shut down immediately, you have to fix your
~/.xinitrc script (I am guessing here, there could be othe causes, but
in the vast majority of cases I have seen, this was the cause). As soon
as ~/.xinitrc terminates, X11 shuts down, so you have to prevent it from
terminating by having a last line that does not terminate. You find
examples of correct ~/.xinitrc scripts everywhere. Just don't place an
extra & at the end.
