Thanks, but it if there is, I believe it is a crashed one from a
previous attempt.
But if so, it shouldn't be there. You can look for it as follows:
sudo lsof -i tcp:6000
No, shows nothing.
Oh, wait a minute ... I forgot about lock files: If the above does not
produce output, the problem is probably just a lock file /tmp/.X0-lock
left over from a crashed server.
There were a bunch of file /tmp/.X0-lock, 1, 2 and a .X11-unix folder,
as well as a .font-unix, .ICE-unix.
I threw these all away.
I then did xterm &
The temp files were re-created; the problem still persists.
Doesn't everyone disable the guest, for security reasons? :-)
I don't. The keyboard on my laptop is physically secure
My desktop sits in my office all night, and goodness knows what the
cleaners and others might do...
