When I followed the instructions in the above URL to set GNUTERM=x11
I found that the PLEditor wouldn't let me save in, nor even see, the
hidden directory '.MacOSX'.
I actually don't know, but the workaround I've always used is that
there is a somewhat-hidden way to browse to an explicit directory in
Cocoa apps --
If you are in a File -> Open dialog, you can hit the '/' or '~' key
and it will let you manually specify a path.
