>From poking around in the .pkg, here is the preinstall script, in toto:
#!/bin/sh
# Kill off old X11.app before installing because relocation will use this one
if [[ -d /usr/X11/X11.app ]] ; then
rm -rf /usr/X11/X11.app
fi
/bin/launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/org.x.fontconfig.plist
if [ -f /System/Library/LaunchAgents/org.x.fontconfig.plist ] ; then
rm /System/Library/LaunchAgents/org.x.fontconfig.plist
fi
exit 0
It all looks fairly innocuous to me. I don't know if launchctl might
have if a process refuses to die? Maybe you could run this script
manually (with sh -x name-of-script) to see what happens.
It is of course also possible that the preinstall script completes,
but that the installer hangs on its own afterwards. That is best
investigated using ps (or pstree if you have it).
