Shawn,
the problems with the contextual menues can be solved if we build
on Leopard but this will break our Tiger compatibility, meaning
that we would need to provide four binaries, Mac Intel Leopard, Mac
PPC Leopard, Mac Intel Tiger and Mac PPC Tiger, which would confuse
Mac users even more.
In general Leopard builds have various other minor issues and we
aren't sure if they are all OOo bugs or if they are caused by the
move from Xfree86 to X.org.
Since it would take too long to integrate the fixes into the X11
version which is due to be replaced by the aqua native version once
3.0 beta is out and 3.0 final, the focus is on fixing the similiar
start issues with the Aqua version. If one of those fixes, fixes
X11 as well it's ok but not on purpose.
You can reduce the appearence of this when you start OpenOffice.org
via terminal (don't forget removing the quotation marks)
using:
"open /Applications/OpenOffice.org\ 2.3.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice
&"
"sh /Applications/OpenOffice.org\ 2.3.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice &"
Those commands show better results then the one you figured out.
Hope this helps,
Eric Hoch

Hi there! I just installed Xquartz on my MacBook running
10.5.2. Unfortunately I'm having a variety of issues with
OpenOffice now. I was unable to double-click the OpenOffice app
to open it. I had to drill into the package and start
'soffice'. I've also noticed that there is no contextual
clicking that works in OoO either. I didn't have these issues
with Apple's X11. Can anyone provide me with some pointers
before I decide to switch back to Apple's?

Martin,
Thanks for your reply.
You'r right. There are two different problems.
After running qtconfig and resetting the font scribus runs without
any problems.
easytag still shows no text in the menubar.
Greetings

with the easytag window? You might have two different problems.
When you run qtconfig, are the fonts looking right? If not, can you
choose right-looking fonts in the qtconfig Fonts menu?

There was a discussion "X11 Applications Font Size" on this list a few
days ago about fonts in gtk+ applications. The recommendation was to
create the right ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file describing the default font. My
recommendation was to have one line in this file:
gtk-font-name = "geneva 12"
Maybe this helps you too.

Setting the default gtk-font-name helps not. I've already tested it
yesterday.
I will re-setup my X11 as described by http://homepage.mac.com/sao1/
X11/index.html#fifteen, hoping
this will fix it.
Thanks again for your help.

Axel,
we've been working on this particular issue for the last ten days
and we hope that it will be solved soon and the normal end-user is
pointed to download page were he finds the latest official qa'ed
releases.
For untested release candidates, milestone builds, Aqua snaphots
the ftp server at good-day is your place to go.
