"Stop" beeping? You mean it actually beeped to begin with? AFAIK,
this hasn't been implemented yet, so I didn't think you should ever be
getting beeps... can you please confirm tis.

Quitting and restarting X11 fixes it. I am not sure if I ever saw

would be useful to gather next time it happens, let me know.
Oh, this is on OS X 10.5.2.
