Ack, missed the linux part. sorry about that..
Since some programs work fine, its most likely that you've got a font
in the Intel mac that the PPC mac doesn't have - check ~/Library/Fonts
and /Library/Fonts on both.

Please note I'm running Wine on my [Intel] Linux box, and the only
thing I'm running on G4 is X11. The app's display is forwarded over
a SSH tunnel.
Would there be a font difference between my two Leopard X11 installs?

Wine doesn't really support PPC. It's intel-only.
Though you're probably missing a few fonts or fontconfig/freetype.

Hi, I'm struggling with an odd situation. I have 2 macs, 1 Intel
iMac, and 1 G4 eMac, both updated to 10.5.5. I am trying to run
a Windows app on the G4, and I was hoping to tunnel to a Linux box
and run it in Wine there, and simply display it remotely.
...but the fonts don't show up at all on the G4; instead a few
garbled "characters" (the odd black speckle here and there). It
works perfectly on the Intel Mac with the same user's login.
I am using "winefile" to to work this out. It also shows up in
winecfg.
I tried the latest XQuartz on the G4 but no difference. Some
other apps (for example, vlc) show up the fonts fine. I did the
"scorched earth" uninstall/reinstall and no change.
The only other difference is that the iMac has Crossover installed
(but not running).
Any pointers on how to debug this? I can post a screenshot if you
think it will help.
Thank you!
