I didn't expect that you'd be able to give a lot of specifics. I think
that sufficiently addresses my minor concern. I guess when my copy
arrives I'll upgrade a test machine first to see how it affects my
critical X11 apps.

As long as xquartz.macosforge.org is active, it will contain the
latest version. This is due to the need to only pull in necessary
fixes into the version shipped with SoftwareUpdates to the OS.
That being said, the version currently shipped on
xquartz.macosforge.org is not compatible with SL (It will fail to
install, so don't bother trying). It has an OS_VERSION < 10.6 check
in the installer.
Once 10.6 is released, I will likely put out X11 updates for Leopard
and SL.
At this time, I cannot comment on what is or is not in SnowLeopard.
You will just have to wait and see...
