VNMR Broken

So I realize this is a rather specific question, but VNMR (Varian NMR
spectrum processing software) is now broken in SL. Last X11 where I
know VNMR to have worked is 2.3.2, though it's possible that it worked
with later releases. I think at one point I did try upgrading to
2.3.5, and it didn't work properly, but I don't remember the details.
I just downgraded to 2.3.2.
Here are the details: Basically I ssh -Y into a sun workstation with
vnmr, call 'vnmr &', it loads the 3 windows it usually loads, then
immediately crashes the entire X11 app. I can send a stack trace to a
given address if that would be helpful, I didn't think it would be a
good idea to spam the whole list with the crash report. For what it's
worth, the console reports that
8/28/09 1:04:38 PM org.x.startx[277] Xquartz: start_x11_server: (ipc/
mig) server died
8/28/09 1:04:38 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[161]
([0x0-0x1c01c].org.x.X11[267]) Job appears to have crashed:
Segmentation fault
8/28/09 1:04:38 PM [0x0-0x1c01c].org.x.X11 xterm: fatal IO error 32
(Broken pipe) or KillClient on X server "/tmp/launch-u2FbQu/:0"
I've tried connecting to a friend's server in the same way and
although I haven't tested extensively, I was able to launch firefox
with no problems. Another small detail, the color depth is set to 256
colors.
I understand that this is a strange and very specific error likely
affecting a tiny number of users, so I understand if it's not very
high priority. As a stop-gap solution, is there a way for me to
continue running the old server under SL?
Thank you so much for your help,
Nicolas
